In my world, Jello shots are synonymous with Halloween.

I’m not sure what that says about me or my friends. We do love a good boozy get-together, and no party is more filled with liquor than our annual costume party.

Between long rounds of Flip Cup (which I am horrible at), epic Beer Pong battles fueled by multiple kegs, and a fridge full of rainbow jello shots…let’s just say the hangovers are never easy.

These Fireball Jello shots were made in honor of my friend Mike (middle name Fireball), who’s wife gave birth to a baby boy (finally!) last week.

No partying for you this year, my friend – but cheers to you and your mini me!

The world needs more Fireball Jello shots.

In my experience, cinnamon whiskey is an incredibly polarizing liquor.

You either love it so much you carry a flask of it with you at all times, or you want to grab every bottle you see and pour it down the nearest drain.

I am of the former persuasion, and I have no fewer than three bottles of spicy whiskey in my liquor cabinet right now.

There aren’t many liquors that I enjoy drinking straight – but Fireball is definitely one of them!

The flavor profile of these Jello shots makes so much sense. Cinnamon & apple are fall staples, and even if you hate Fireball, these shots might just change your mind about it! The gelatin really calms the bite of the whiskey, making the experience way more enjoyable than a straight shot!

What are Jello Shots?

Jello shots are small, liquor-infused party treats that are pretty much irresistible. Traditionally, Jello Shots are made with vodka, white rum, or tequila, but these whiskey-flavored ones are super unique and totally hold up!

While these treats are fun and colorful, they are definitely not for kids, so keep them out of sight!

These easy Jello shots are great all year long! Serve them as a reward to tired parents during a long night of trick-or-treating, as a holiday party aperitif, or by the pool on a hot summer day.

How far in advance should I make Jello shots?

Jello shots generally take between 1 and 3 hours to set in the refrigerator after being poured.

For best results, plan to make them at least 4 hours ahead of party time. This gives them plenty of time to not only set, but chill to a pleasant temperature.

Can I freeze Jello shots to make them set faster? Ehhhhh I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s a chance you may forget about them, and end up with frosty tops, or possibly even frozen gelatin.

Keep your shots in the refrigerator during the party, bringing out a few at a time to distribute them so they stay fresh! (Of course, if your friends are like mine, they’ll just pop in the fridge whenever they have a hankering for one or three.)

How to Make Jello Shots

Making this Jello shot recipe is a super easy, quick process, and the results will elevate any party spread!

First, get your cups prepped. Line up 12 to 14 2-ounce condiment cups on a small baking sheet and set it aside – you’ll be using them soon!

Empty your box(es) of gelatin into a large 4-cup glass measuring cup. I used Jolly Ranchers Green Apple gelatin here, because it’s literally the ONLY apple jello I could find. (You may find it at a local store – I could only find it on Amazon.)

If you’re interested in making your own apple gelatin, follow Martha’s recipe for it – just use apple juice or cider and plain gelatin.

Slowly add boiling water to the gelatin, whisking the whole time. Whisk everything together for about 2 minutes until the gelatin is completely dissolved.

Next you’ll add in some very cold water (to shock the gelatin and help it set) and the cinnamon whiskey.

Stir the liquid well, then divide it into those prepped cups. Fill each one about halfway to 3/4 of the way full.

Pop the baking sheet in the fridge and chill the Jello shots for at least 2 hours, or overnight. When they’ve set, pop the tops on them to keep the gelatin from shrinking.

When you’re ready to serve them, thinly slice some sweet apples and have them nearby to help partygoers loosen the gelatin from the cups! You could even have a can of whipped cream available for more of an apple pie feel.

Also, feel free to boast about how your Jello shots are the best Jello shots EVER.

They’re made with Fireball, so…they totally are.
